Replaced the clutch, now it won't go into gear, just grinds. Wondering if I got the clutch plate in backwards. I put the part that sticks out towards the rear of the tractor like in the pictures. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Sounds right. been a while since I changed one. For reference the manual says smooth side towards the flywheel, side with longer hub and dampener spring towards the pressure plate.

3/16" to 1/4" clearance between the throwout bearing and pressure plate fingers should give the 1-1-4" to 1-3/4" free play at the pedal. What do you have for free play?

Yea, I shut it off and put in gear then started it just now. It wants to move regardless of the clutch pedal being pushed in. I can push the clutch and breaks and it will hold it stop it and not kill it. I've adjusted the linkage and makes no difference

After you installed it, did you check (gauge) the pressure plate fingers to the throwout bearing to see if they were all the same? If they are not the same clearance, that can make a clutch drag.

Did you check, or change, the pilot bushing or bearing (which does yours have)?

Did it slide together easily, or did you pull it in with the bolts?

No I didn't try it on the bushing on the
shaft. It didn't really pull that hard
when pulling it together with the bolts

When swapping some parts around I had a tight bushing one time that, as you suggest, caused this problem.

At this point I would suggest the first check would be to check the clearance between the throwout bearing and each of the pressure plate fingers. If those are correct (all equal clearance) you may need to go back into it and check everything. What was the condition of the input shaft where the clutch disc runs? Bad shaft splines could make the new disc hang some.

I will have to measure tomorrow..but it
was probably 2 to 3 inches just guessing. Far as I could tell the splines was in good shape. The old bushing that came out was worn badly and very uneven
