You need to check all your bearings. Starting with the top and bottom shafts. They can't have any play. Don't need new bearings necessarily. I ripped 3rd gears teeth off. The problem it was just meshing about 1/2. When went back together new gears (from a donar trans) were the same. Needed new washers/shims. Can't just use the ones like the picture in the book. Tighten the ring and pinion , its bound to be loose. Tighten axle bearings. And bull pinion bearings. Plus all new seals. I put everything in the power director and it still slipped. So i took it out. Don't need anything but a short shaft from a donar and weld it to yours. When you take it apart you will understand. O I am pulling a D17 Diesel. No. Blower. 300 hp. Trans are the same to a D21. They have more teeth on trans gears so stronger. But they will fit in yours. But doubt you need them. If you are running 6-8 mph. I would start with a 426 engine. Sorry for rambling Vic. Call me. 618 599 8041Anybody pull an Allis Chalmer D19 and if so what did you do to make the rear end stronger.
I am gonna be running a d19 rear end not a 17.You need to check all your bearings. Starting with the top and bottom shafts. They can't have any play. Don't need new bearings necessarily. Why. D17 stronger.I am gonna be running a d19 rear end not a 17.
So you believe a D19 Rear end is stronger than a 180 also. I don't really know, but I'm using final drives from a early WD. Because they are lighter. They haven't given any trouble yet. Knock on wood. I am worried more about the axle from the ring gear to the bull pinion gear. Because I've shorten them 10" and welded them together. But I stop at 5000lb. But can get down to 4000 lb. My main competition is a 460 IHC with a ,RD engine. But a 460 with a DT 466 engine. Stroked and poked to 800 plus cubes is another level. No turbo and 500 hp. Doubt it will ever stop."have to use weld-on hubs" ?? Well, that is probably true if the tractor has a bar type axle like a D-19 does. Should not be a problem using a D-17 rear end as there is no bar axle. Bar type axles using cast iron hubs are prone to breaking the hubs, so they (for safety) make you use a weld-on steel mount for the rear wheel. A complete misinterpretation of the rule. A D-17 rear axle is a flange axle which isn't a problem. By the way, a series 3 or 4 D-17 transmission is exactly the same as a D-19 transmission, just in a different housing. The final drives are much stronger on a D-19 than any age D-17.
