Dain Corn Cutter

This is my Dane Corn Cutter. Just picked up seats for this last March I paid $200 for the seats, and $50 for the corn cutter. Its a two man operation with manually shocking, and tying the corn.
Its called a Dain Steel Safety Corn Cutter, but it looks pretty deadly to me, especially when harnessed to an unpredicable horse.

I can about imagine how it would work. You will want some hill planted corn to try it on. I have a check row planter and could plant some. It's going to keep two guys pretty busy taking the bundles. I'll drive the tractor.

You"re right. There doesn"t look like there"s anything "safe" about it, but in those bygone days, you were just on your own as far as safety.

I have always wanted to see them in action. I cannot imagine getting AND keeping the blade sharp enough to continually cut corn stalks. Ive cut plenty when as a kid with a sharp corn knife, and sometimes id have to whick them twice to get them fully cut. Id love to see one used. Ive not even seen them on U Tube

I'm pretty sure the operator would have to grab the corn and hold it against the knife so it would cut and not just bend it over and run over it. I don't think it would work worth a hoot with drilled corn but hills you would have time to drop your bundle and grab the next bunch. I would like to try it sometime.
