Dandl flail mower

I picked up a Dandl flail mower and wanting to see if I can get it fixed up to sell or just scrap it. It was free so not losing out. The biggest thing I'm seeing is there are loops that the blades are supposed to attach to, lots are missing and I can't seem to find them online. Also one of the bearings for the roller is trashed, I assume it would be a generic bearing/housing assembly that I could get at a hardware store. What would it be worth in usable condition, I think its 8 or 9 feet long, haven't measured yet.

I have EXACTLY the same problems: I have about 90% intact and lacking last dozen or so sets - If you decided not to repair yours, I would be really happy to buy say 30 each sets but especially the hangers and the retainers, or even the blades - [email protected] in Appomattox Virginia. FYI I bought mine at a Virginia surplus auction for $260 dollars and have found no parts available and a previous dandle distributor told me the parts are discontinued and only recourse is to get your local machine shop to make them from scratch. I'd much rather buy them from you because I plan to fab them myself, but that is time consuming. [email protected] Appomattox Virginia.


Having been reading a little I have seen it said the gearbox is same as many ford models and I'm sure you are correct about the bearings...

Wow that looks like a lot of little parts held on with a cotter pin in a very harsh environment. Surprised you have that many left!

Jwedd and Ink, thanks for the info, funny thing is that I'm doing just the opposite, switching back to the scoop blades because my field is not that thick, just ordered the standard scoop knives from flail-master should be here next week. The y-knives left a lot of fox tails so I need a closer...

Actually has seen very rugged use over brush and heavy cover in Virginia and in Georgia by respective State Forestry agencies and they loved them and swore by them as the best - I know some of those old timers - apparently the design is practically indestructible - it's actually clevis pin and cotter key on the retreating side of the core - I used it as bought with scattered missing sets about a dozen and it did a really good job even before I up-ended it and sharpened the blades and consolidated them to get a complete 8 foot width. I'm greedy I suppose to want the full 9 foot. I Bought exactly the correct clevis pins from McMaster-Carr if you don't know those guys check them out online or even better see if you can get one of their catalogues, it weighs about 5 lbs. but it's BETTER than the online option and there are thousands of widgets and tons of engineering data - I tell people if they read a McMaster catalog once they will know more than most engineers learned in school.
