Dash cam pro tips

Not from Iceland!
I’ll be buying a dash cam and wanted to see if there’s anything in particular I should be looking for. Any tips for using it to its best advantage? Best models or even ones that do the job with no frills?

My area’s roads are a combination super speedway and demolition derby. Many insurers are pulling out, refuse to offer coverage to drivers around here but that’s another topic. Anyway, a dash cam is becoming a necessity rather than an option. Sad but true. Thanks for any tips.

We use Rove brand. We have front and rear cameras. Used other brands but like these better.
This is what I’ll order after reading the reviews. Looks like they agree with you. Thanks.

No dash cam advice, but I thought Mound Rd. International Speedway was in front of my house
Now we have “dead man’s curve” on my road. A gentle sweep to the right, not challenging unless you’re going 80-90 mph and maybe intoxicated. The first car took out the utility pole, 2 medevac choppers carried off the occupants. A week later skid marks disappeared into the woods at the same spot.

Idiots driving everywhere it seems. If you go down the highway at the posted speed everuone goes flying by you and look at you like you are a road menace. State police or local police set beside the road and never stop them. On the highway they pass on either side swerving in and out of lanes. I stay off the highways all I can. 🧑‍🌾

I agree. I usually set my cruise control at 3-4 mph over the limit and they still go flying by like you were standing still.

A driver cam is a good option. It can prove the driver was driving and not playing with the phone or picking up the lunch from the floor. I have footage that shows I was driving and the car driver ran the stop sign. By the video it shows I hit her but it was just the cab tipping forward as all ten wheels slid to a stop from 32 miles per hour. The good Lord was watching over her that day .

Thanks for the suggestions. I ordered a Rove front and back camera today. They were running a special, something like half off the regular price and it was for one of the better ones.

I like the idea of the driver cam as well. If nothing else it’ll make me behave myself and not be distracted while driving.

Talked to a semi-driver who said the insurance company for the rig he drives requires 5 cameras, 2 rear and 3 front. He said he slow rolled thru a rural stop sign and not only did the camera tell him, his boss called and told him to not let it happen again. I do understand the issues demanding this, but the slippery slope toward big brother watching every move and movement is a bit unnerving. jmho gobble

I very firmly agree with you.

Consider this...................... Who are the cameras watching, and who is not being watched. Gives you food for thought.
