Dash cam

Any one use a dash cam?
Any recommendations?
Are they worth the money, seem like they are not too expensive.

I just had a truck pulling a trailer in the right lane come across 2 lanes to make a left turn. Didnt hit, but did have to brake hard

There is nothing to watch on ours, you look at it but its a blank screen. Its posts straight to the cloud then you can down load it

he goal is to have a record of whatever happens when you're driving. Helps when you get to court and need to prove who did what. You don't watch it while you're recording.

A dash cam records what is going on in front of the car. You are not watching a monitor so why should they be banned if they record what has happened in an accident etc.??

I could be wrong. But I ride with my son now. To go anywhere. I see people all the time driving and looking down.Watching a screen not the road.I know the DPS and local Sheriff. They pull people over all the time.We had a guy last month watching the screen fliped his car. Got out ok but he could have died.

A dashcam is not a dvd screen nor a handheld tablet nor a cellphone. Not an entertainment device built-in or otherwise.
There would be no point in watching the dash cam screen vs looking thru the windshield.

"Looking down" says they are not watching a dash cam.

They would show real time video of the road, they are not an attractive/distractive nuisance. They are looked at after an event, not before. Jim

I have used one for some time now and really like it. I have a Z-Edge that I purchased on Amazon. Didn't know if it would be of much use, then one day setting at a stop light, a lady hit a cop car on an emergency run broadside right in front of me. Cops couldn't get my footage fast enough! Sure enough, it showed every thing including the sound and traffic light. I'm a firm believer now.

They are looking at the internet on their phone. Or texting. Has zero to do with a dash cam.

Seems like many drivers of big trucks use them and for good reason. Just go on YouTube and you'll see lots of videos of drivers doing the stupidest things. It seems that many a trucker has avoided a ticket after an accident by showing his video to a police officer or judge.
They're not expensive and I am seriously considering getting one myself.

I forget that I have the camera. It powers on when truck is started and goes off one minute after turning truck off. Sometimes I dance in front of truck walking to my destination. A guy texting hit me in the rear a month after getting the camera. He tried to tell the law that I was sitting in the middle of the road. the camera told a different story. My camera freezes the file after a sudden jarring of the vehicle(accident), like a seatbelt tightens ridged after an accident. This prevents writing over the valuable footage. I had to get my computer friend to unlock the file for me. Another inportant scenerio would be when you are approaching an intersection and you have the green light and someone tbones you and tells the law that he had the green light. Your camera will display that you had the green light. I have a 32GB simcard in mine. You don't need that much storage since the file is constantly written over. When on the road I take the camera into the motel room and use the suction cup on camera and stick it on room window and point it down to my vehicle. The 32GB records activity around vehicle until morning. Another use for the camera.
