20 laps to go and Sunny D was trying move Menards over to get his spot and hit him on the right rear and not only knocked him out of the race but there was chaos on the strip.....the cars that weren't hit, scattered everywhere.
Sunny D made an opening for himself with all the mayhem behind him and got in with the front runners.

Was there in '89 when Jaws won it. 60-62 degrees out, natives in parkas and north country folks
in T-shirts and shorts. LOL My favorite D500 would be 85 when Elliot won by 30+ seconds.
Puts a smile on my face just thinking about it. Earnhardt's win with everybody lining up on
pit road to high five MIB was the coolest thing.

I was always a Waltrip and Harry Gant fan, probably because they drove Chevy and Buick for the most part. I wasn't really an Elliot fan for the same reason, he drove Ford! But I have to admit that in 85 that slippery Thunderbird body of Elliot's was tough to beat. I liked that era of racing when a Ford was a ford, Chevy, Buick Pontiac, whatever, was based on a production model and if the Ford was faster, GM had to figure out how to catch up. Or vice versa.

They should change the name to the "Scrap Yard 500" with all of the wrecks.
Yeah, I was amazed at the wrecks and the cars that went sailing like the wind was blowing 190 MPH and thanks to preparations, after that airborne and then crashing down experience more than once, the driver was at a news interview just minutes after his car was totalled. Glad somebody is looking after the drivers.

On a side note, I think the spectators aren't there for the race.....they are there for the excitement of the wrecks....and they do get their ticket's worth. Glad the drivers make it out OK.

Yes......I loved the interview with Kyle Busch....."looked like the car that was the fastest all day long was in a hurry to get to the next wreck". Also, really really profound comment by Ryan Preece after his scary, scary airborne excursion........" I walked away again this time, but I think the time is approaching where someone is not going to".......he needs to be listened to

I’m no pt a Busch fan, but he had a good interview for a change.

Officiating at the 500 was worse than normal this year, threw yellow when they shouldn’t, not throw them when they should, no consistency. Divers won’t know how to react now.

Busch wasn’t allowed to fix his car, the rules put him in a box that had no reasonable consistency either. Either they need to park all cars with a fender bender or have a more clear repair rule set allowing all competitors to do some repairs. That was goofy.

NASCAR is sort of like the lawn mower tractor pulls. They are fun for 3 years, then the fella comes along with a double frame stretch lawn mower and a snowmobile engine bolted in, walks away with everything. The next 3 years others do the same, but only 1/4 the competitors show up too expensive. And then no one shows up the whole fun goes away and everyone has a beer and remembers how fun it used to be.

Nascar has it out for Rowdy he had optional air lift shocks no one knows why nascar did not allow the safety crew to plug up a air tank to his car and lift it so he could drive it back to the pits. Nascar intentionally damaged his car by towing it and would not him back in the race after he put 4 tires on it.

Nascar bent over backwards to let Lagoon'o back in the race.

I hit the local dirt track every few years. Home-grown racing, local sponsors, cheap hot dogs. Never know who’s gonna be out there. Maybe I’ll go this year.

Ford did their homework on that Thunderbird body it also helped Elliot was running a cylinder head that no one else had are lets say nascar allowed them to run.

Ernie Elliott gave up short track speed and went after super speedway speed along with his magic cylinder heads on a super speedway they ran away form the others. Nascar has most cars even now so they can determine who they want to win. Google rusty wallace 242MPH

Always liked the paint scheme on the Rusty Wallace Miller Genuine Draft cars.

NASCAR is no longer the sport it started as, it's now regulated into a production. The officials dictate the outcome, the teams are just forced play along or move along. It started the way of the dodo bird when the restrictor plate came onto the seen, jmho
