david brown 885

I have a david brown 885 diesel. This is my first diesel tractor.I was told, that in the winter time that i have to mix the diesel with gas, because diesel will gel. Will i be able to run the tractor with gas and diesel mix?And how much gas to diesel?

Thanks George

Usa a diesel fuel additive that prevents gelling like power service or howes. they are sold at most truck stops or bigger stations that sell diesel. I would not use gasoline the additive is like $10.00 and it treats like 100 gallons

Never mix diesel with gasoline. Kerosine is OK to protect against gelling.
For my dexta diesel I use WYNNS ice proof for diesel. Mixing rate 1:400

Talk to your fuel supplier about this issue. Most suppliers blend #1 and #2 diesel in the winter months to help prevent gelling. My experience has been gelling occurs at -15 to -20 deg. F with winter blended fuel . Hopefully , you won't see any temps. that low this winter if you are in Indiana.

Mixing gas and diesel ?? Once owned a 1981 V.W. Rabbit diesel. The owners manual recommended it and I did it on a few occasions when gelling was an issue . This was in the late 80's , doubt I would do it today as fuel makeup has changed alot since then .

Never mix gasoline with diesel fuel, use winter blend diesel, here in Mn, thats 50-50 # 2 and #1. In my 830 I mix 5 gallons of kerosene to every tank and add Power Service anti-gel, I run it to blow snow no matter how cold it gets, even to 25 below and it"s never quit on me.
