David Brown Info Needed

What do I have? I purchased a David Brown 990 to farm 10-15 acres in industrial hemp. It replaces a 1953 Ford Jubilee. I believe it to be a very sound machine and capable of doing the job, but I am not sure exactly what model it is or if it has been altered. The tractor serial number is H990 UA 471597 and the engine serial number is AD4/47A 52985. It looks to be a late 1964 or early 1965 David Brown Implematic, with a 6 speed Hi-Lo transmission, however the hood and paint colors look like the David Brown Selectamatic made in 1965; white hood and brown/bronze engine frame. Did David brown use an updated hood and paint scheme on later Implematics or has someone replaced the hood and repainted?

It is exactly what you think. I don't think any selectamatic 990s or 880s made it to the US until Late 1966 or 67. My grandfather bought one of these 990s new in early 1966(new tinware, implematic).

770s were designed from the start as selectamatics.

Thank you. So it is a 990 Implematic? Is the hood and colors original or off a later model Selectamatic? All the 990 Implematics I've seen were reddish orange with a rounded hood and front grille

Thank you, can you tell me what the original grill looked like and if the colors were all original to the tractor?

The "UA" in your serial number... "U" means it was special for the American market, why it has selectamatic tin on a implematic tractor. There was an import deal with Bolens to the American market. Reason for the color change... was to make them look like Bolens tractors.

the "a" just means it is an agricultural variant.

colors look close. Muffler should be red.

The grill would have been made out of thin wires instead of expanded metal. That one looks perfectly serviceable.
