David Brown Serial and Model Numbers - Where?

My dad was given a David Brown years back which needs lots of repairs. I just got it cleaned up enough to search for model and serial numbers. I found where someone mentioned the SN is on the left side frame. Actually, there are two numbers there on mine and I'm not sure which is the correct one. Also, where do you find the model number? I've checked out a lot of photos and it appears to be a 1975 990. But I want to make sure before I start ordering parts on line. And lastly, can anyone recommend a reliable source for DB parts that won't charge me an arm and leg?

Check out the photo in this thread for the location of your serial number on the 990. You might have to scrape some paint to expose it. On my 990, the SN is at this location but it is also on a data plate thats on the door of the toolbox, underneath tractor. If your tool box is gone, then that plate won"t be there.

The #s are stamped in the frame but on the right front of the engine frame right being as you sit in the seat. It should give you all the #s you need to tell model and year with a serial # book. In my area we have alot of the David Browns being used. I sell alot of repair parts for them and we work on them. Our local case dealer says they are trash and wont hardly lift a finger to find you parts for one. Hope this helps Thad

I can't find any numbers at the right front of the engine frame. There are numbers that begin with DA all over the tractor. I assume those are part numbers. I did find two numbers on the left frame at the clutch pedal. The top one is F929249 and under it is DA22783. Are either of these numbers what I need?

Thanks Joe,
I'm a bit confused as where to find the "photo in this thread" as you mentioned. I am new to this site and haven't yet learned where such things might be. There is no toolbox on this tractor, though there might have been once upon a time. I can't find a plate of any kind on the tractor and there are lots of DA numbers on practically every part. I'll keep looking for your photo thread.

Stupid me. I found the site. Mine looks exactly like that but there are no numbers stampped in the location show on that tractor.

Hi Wayne, the serial number is stamped on a ledge which faces the sky, right where the gentleman put the arrow in the photo. Take some sand paper and give the ledge in that area a few scrapes. Something should turn up. BTW, I have a number of manuals for the 990 on pdf, including the operators/owner's manual. I can email them to you.

Thanks,

The more I think of it, that area is pretty caked with grease and dirt. I spray washed it, but it needs a bit of degreaser. It has to be there cause I can't find it anywhere else. And thanks a million for the pdf files. My direct email is [email protected]. It looks in bad shape but it cranks easily (for a diesel) and runs great. I only need it for my Bush Hog but don't want the neighbors pointing at me when they see me mowing.

Hello Wayne,
I think the david brown tractors are great they are a little light they don't like loaders, but the are great on fuel. I work on alot of them.
I can get some repairparts, clutches and engine parts and I am working on being a dealer for some hard to find parts, spindles and castings.
Good Luck Ed
