Davis 210 Backhoe

Just picked up a Davis 210 backhoe on a Minneapolis Moline 335. Since most Davis equipment appears to be associated with Massey tractors, Im posting here with questions. This has the Davis 102 loader frame on it, presumably for some counterweight and the hydraulic reservoir. It appears to have never had a loader on it. Is filling the reservoir up to the two small plugs far enough to operate the backhoe, or should it take more fluid than that?

What hydraulic fluids do you use in these? The loader manufacturer calls for Type A ATF. Im running some TSC brand 46 hydraulic fluid in it to get the water worked out of the system. It will only be used in warm weather, and a little extra viscosity might help a couple of the leaks.

The roughly 200 pound counterweight on the front loader frame plus another 500+ pounds stacked on top of that at least keeps the front end on the ground.

There should be a dipstick under the vent, although it may be missing. Full is about halfway up the tall part of the frame. I use ISO 32. ISO 46 might give you a problem if it gets well below 25 F for extended periods of time. The only thing that helps with leaks is repairing them.

The bottom of my frame/ tank was full of sludge/ water. I ended up welding a threaded coupling on the bottom and recirculating diesel through just the frame two or three times (until it was clean). This cured the water problem. If you have one of the old cartridge filters you may want to upgrade to a spin on. I couldn't find a replacement cartridge for mine. The AGCO number crossed to a Wix 1010. It was NOT the correct one, even though it physically fit.
