DC foot clutch

Going back into the Archives ,the only numbers I could come up with ,were the SC numbers @ 1135. No real numbers on the DC . CM

I own one, believe it's a 1953, foot clutch, eagle hitch, live pto, live hydraulics, one set remotes, narrow front, great pulling tractor did good on 3-14 pull type plow,

I am going to step out on a limb, and say the foot clutch was an option on the DC. I remember DC Tom making comment on this. CM

According to company records no DC's were built in 1954. The last year of production was 1953. Here's whats printed in DC Toms article on the D series in Old Abes News and the Case book Full Steam Ahead.
During the 1953 year a strike occurred. No D models were built after the strike."Research of records of this time reveals that most of these tractors were returned to the assembly area after the strike, some fitted with foot clutches, renumbered as 1954 units, and sold as such."
1953 D series production = 420 D's,3622 DC3's and 1700 DC4's
There is no known information on the number of foot clutch DC's built/or converted.
Most of the 53 and 54 DC's I have seen had foot clutches, although I have seen several with hand clutches and a few DC3's without eagle hitches.

IMHO approximately 4 out of 5 D series tractors with the 8000000 serial numbers had foot clutch, aluminum 4" pistons (AP stamp by the serial number on the block) and "easy ride" seat. Everybody knew Case was coming out with a new tractor since 1951 or 52 and almost nobody wanted a DC anymore. My guess is that unsold D series tractors in dealers hands got the 4" aluminum pistons and kept the hand clutch. Case had a special dealer program to take out the 3 7/8" cast iron pistons and replace them with a 4" kit, repackage the 3 7/8 pistons and use them for overhaul jobs. The tractors in Racine storage were heavily modified to attempt to make them more desirable to the farmer and got the whole package, I believe. You could still order a new DC in 1956, at a severe discount, of course. There were a whole bunch of foot clutch DC4's around here that the local dealer sold very cheap. I actually have one. Don
