I have 1946 DC-3, under the seat area, near the fill plug (to the eagle lift), there is a hole in the top of the housing. possibly a vent ? It goes in on an angle and could funnel water in, but why ?
Anyone know the purpose of this ? thanks

I want to thank you for your question. I was searching through the DC parts manual trying to find a picture of the top of the transmission. I got back to the hydraulics and on page 166 there is a hydraulic adapter for the Case couplers that goes form 7/8" 18 tpi to 1/2" pipe thread. This is the piece that I need for my 300. They are in stock and only cost about $8.00 apiece. I had asked about a week ago and some gave me the Case end size and thread count. It won't be original but it will be closer than putting Pioneer couplers on it.

I did not find a diagram showing what I see in your picture. Never having seen a DC 3 I have no idea what the hole is for. But as I said in my other post, thanks for getting me to look at the parts manual and finding what I need.

Clee, if your serial number tag indicates your DC is a 1946 then you have a hybrid from two different tractors and your rear section is from a 52, 53 or 54 DC, couldmake a difference on the parts diagrams you are looking at. Eagle hitch wasn't released until 1949 and then only on the VAC. It caught up with the SC and DC models in 1952. I think 64 0r 65 was the last year for it. After that I guess the Ferguson patent ran out and Case went to conventional 3 pt.

My 52 DC has a freeze plug in the hole you are asking about. It is the style that does not have a shoulder on it.You should be able to get one at an auto parts store. Nick

I went out and looked at my eagle hitch DC 8025000.

Had to scrap away some crud but there is a plugged hole...never noticed it before. I believe the plug is called a Welch plug (Same type is used in a VACs brake shaft..
