DC top speed

A friend is looking at a nonrunning DC. It has 10x38 rears. What is top speed? He needs to make sure it will run at least 10MPH for tractor rides. Thanks,Steve.
You should be just at 10 MPH. 13.6-38 would get you about 10.6 mph and 14.9 would get you about 12. You may get a little more by increasing RPM's.

Should just make 10mph. They don’t go as fast as letter farmalls though!

We did a tractor ride last year with dads DC. 13.6x38s on the rear parked it right at 10mph, which was the minimum speed to participate. After a while when we got out of the hills everyone else pulled off from us and left me leading a group of mostly old JDs and some Farmalls with dad behind me on his SC

When we stopped for lunch one of the guys on the JDs came up and said "let them go, don't go any faster, we like your pace." The whole point of the ride was to relax and enjoy the back country roads but it seemed like they were trying to race to the finish.

While many tractor rides minimum speed is 10mph. A tractor needs to do 12 so it can average 10, with the hills and such. Chuck the machinist and his brother John put DI bull gears in their DC's and are claiming about 15 I think. You won't see many DC's SC's VAC's on tractor rides, just cant average the 10 mph over the long day. J.I. Case was building tractors for work. Torque and power to the ground were king, not speed. Speed came in the 1955 400 with 8 forward and 2 reverse. I could be mistaken, and usually am. gobble

When we were on the hills I was having to stop and hit 3rd gear because the 601 Ford and the little Allis infront of me couldn’t pull the hills

On our rides, you don't want to get behind H Farmalls unless you want to shift down for the hills. They can go on the flat but die quickly on the hill.

The guys on the Deeres behind me I think were cruising in 6th at like half throttle, I was on the governor on the DC to get 10 but like I said they were more than happy with that pace, and is only like 1200-1300 RPM for me. None of us ever slowed down on the hills, which is typically where I caught back up to everyone, even dad on the SC chugged up the hills in 4th.
