47 DO new nappa batt. had not run in three weeks, started rightup . loaded it . drove 50 mi to show . started, put in reverse ,shut off ,then battery dead, what would it be?

Contacts (points) in voltage regulator or generator cutout (depending on which you have) may be sticking and keeping system energized. Do you have a working amp meter on the tractor? Amp meter should show discharge after shutting tractor off, it this is the problem. It may not happen every time you run it.

C. Amick is correct, it would have to be the regulator points sticking to drain the battery that fast. Aside from that, I would look for a bad connection somewheres.
