Dearborn 19-71

As I compile a list of leaky seals to replace, I disassembled a loader lift cylinder and was surprised to find no packing or piston with O- ring at the end of the rod. The only thing at the end of the rod is a washer approx. 1/4" wide, probably cast iron with a nut and lock washer. I guess all pressure is contolled by the seal installed in the aluminum casting. I've been poking around looking for an exploded view of this system without sucess. I just find it a bit strange to have metal on metal contact when the cylinder is indexed through it's range. The next thing to do is getting the seal out of the aluminum casting. Just babbling here, thanks,Mike

Upon further disassembly, all becomes clear. It's amazing to me that this system has lasted 65 years, simple ,effective design. Pease.
