Dearborn Stabilizer Bracket

All, I have these on my 1949 8N and am wondering if they are to be used in place of the rectangular-ish stabilizer brackets now sold. Are they for something else? Is there an advantage of using the Dearborn over the other kind?

The pic here is from John Smith's site, but mine look just like 'em. There is a small chain with a linchpin on the end, but I can't figure out where the chain connects to?

Thanks!

If you notice on the ones pictured , there is a small hole on the end of casting . The end of chain hooks through that hole . I believe the brackets mount with the pin toward the front of tractor . I may be wrong , so if I am just switch them side to side . Another way to figure it out is hook your sway bars to an implement & see which way the bracket line up with the fender bolts . HTH ! God bless, Ken

Pins face inboard, keeping bars away from tires.

One end of small chain connects on ring of lynch pin like a key on a key ring. The other end of chain you put on the loop of a 1/8" diameter cotter pin. Then insert the cotter pin through the tiny hole in bracket to prevent from losing the lynch pin.

And when the brackets are mounted under the axle correctly, the pins must be directly across from the pins on the axle that the lift arms connect to.

No one answered your question. These are original stabilizer brackets for your tractor. The angle iron type now sold is an aftermarket. If you see one with a ball below the pin, it is for the right axle for use with the 14- series of sicle bar mowers.
If you are restoring your tractor, having original parts helps in making it look good.

That's what everybody says but I see no way mine will point directly at each other. Holes in the original brackets would have to be slotted out about 1/2 inch and there is not enough "meat" there to do that..

Pin goes forward and points to the center of the tractor. It is opposite the pin for the lower lift arm.
