Decoding John Deere 2510 Serial Numbers

New to the forum, thanks for your patience with me as I learn. If this is in the wrong place, let me know!

I am the proud new owner of a 1968 JD 2510. It was included with the price of the farm we purchased last May.

I am preparing to dive into the refresh/restoration process. My local Tractor and Small Engine club is a great resource, but in the mean time, I am trying to decipher the Serial Numbers on both the engine block and the back of the tractor:

Tractor Serial: T713R 015240R
Engine Serial: M53RA 096548T

I have found more information on the Tractor Serial than the engine, but I am seeking wisdom from you all about both. Thanks![/img:153fe17207]

Tractor

SN = serial number
T = Tractor
7 = 2510
1 = Row Crop
3 = Diesel
R = (Transmission) Syncro-range

Serial number: 015240 (This number falls in the 1968 build range)

R= (Build location) John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works

Engine

SN = serial number
M = Motor
5 = 4 cylinder
3 = Diesel
R = (User) John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works
A = Row Crop
096548 = Engine unit number
T = (Engine build location) John Deere Dubuque Works

The engine serial/unit numbers are not listed in a chart as many tractor serial/unit numbers are. Your dealer may be able to get the build date of the engine if you need it.

Welcome to the 2510 club. A 2510 diesel was the first New Generation tractor I ever operated in the field. I bought my diesel in 1991 and
picked up a gas a few years ago as well. Here is mine hooked to a 68 grain cart. Tom

Thank you kindly for replying to my post. I am sad to say, time has not been good to the ol' 2510, as George (the previous owner) stored it outside in the elements most of the time. I have since rectified that by cleaning a space for it in one of the barns. Below is a picture as the 25q0 sat when I first visited the property.

I recently inherited a Diesel 2510 from my grandfather. Can someone help me decipher the serial number? It doesn’t match the typical layout.

Welcome to this forum.
The "P" on serial plate indicates this 2510 has a Powershift trans. 004609 indicates it's a 1966 model.
