"Deep River" the mighty Mississippi

The Minnesota river flows past my place about a mile away. Goes north about 80 miles and emptys into Mississippi River.
Since we had historic high water last weekend I thought I would go see what it's doing to the Mississippi.
Wow!! It's out of its banks all the way from Redwing to Winona. I crossed over the river at Redwing mn. into Wisconsin then rode down to Winona and crossed back to mn.

Speaking of the might Mississippi. In 1964 while in the Navy I went to air craft engine school near Memphis Tenn. I bought a small motorcycle from someone who was leaving the school.. While riding it around I came across the Mississippi River. All I remember was, it was wide and brown. Stan

Been decades since I was in Winona but as far as I know I still have family in the area but have not heard from them in decades

I live 1/2 mile from mississippi river just north of dubuque ia on the wisconsin side and the river is flooding but not up to the 1965 levels yet hope it does not reach those heights

I have been watching the river for a couple of weeks, we have been hauling fertilizer across the Red Wing bridge. All of the campgrounds are flooded for about three weeks, ten days ago the Wood Shed pizza/liquor store had semi's backed up to the doors emptying it out. we could watch the progress of the flood on the parking lot. Last load I took Monday the water had completely covered the lots and was half way up the doors. This isn't the first time nor will it be the last time. The building is cement block and they just bring in pressure washers and hose it out. Should go for a ride today and see how deep it is now.

It is flowing well here in St. Cloud MN. Plenty of flow down stream. More water going to come down here in the next few hours. Jim

Yeah that brown is us farmer's top soil and if you compare 1960 photographs of the spoil area size where it meets the Gulf of Mexico todays area, you will see just how much valuable top soil has been lost.
