Deer Eating the Apple Trees

Today the deer decided they were going to eat the apple trees, not the fruit, but the trees themselves.
Any idea on a good way to stop them?

When I younger my dad would take human hair from a barbershop and put it into nylon stockings. The smell of humans would scare the deer off. I remember it working.

Fencing. Deer are easy, it's mice that are the worst. I lost 2 apple trees to mice in the winter eating the bark when I first moved here. I had to learn the hard way. I still don't really know a foolproof way to stop mice, but deer and rabbits no longer get to touch anything I plant.

Like Farmall m farmer, this year my county talked me into buying some stuff called Plantskydd. Supposedly repels any varmints. Interesting thing - I looked at the label to see what was in it - turns out it's dried pig or cow blood. Unfortunately, they don't mention mice. I'll find out this winter, one way or the other. Everything I have is fenced to keep deer and bunnies away. Sure hope the dried blood scares mice, any fencing that can stop mice is expensive.

We have that problem with the deer eating the pine trees at our tree farm, wire cages is the best answer, although one of our neighbors here in Bemidji had a motion activated sprinkler that works for them.

I cut 50' sections of 4' fencing into 4 pieces, and made round circles, then drove stakes in the ground to hold them. That keeps deer and rabbits away from them. Never had an issue with mice. But they are a pain to mow around and you can't weed wack them without messing up the fence. (my trees are in my yard) I spray around them with roundup once a year and at least that keeps the weeds to a minimum. I usually take the cages off once a year and lay down some mulch. I suppose weed blocker would solve the issue but I have too many trees to mess with that.

I've read, but don't know if it works, that big cat manure from the zoo will keep almost every prey animal away.

'Course, you'd need to be near a zoo or similar. and be sure that you get the 'right stuff', don't think monkey doo would do.

Tim's got the idea. I have cylinders of chicken wire, cyclone fence, and even cattle fence in places where I can make the cylinder large enough. Otherwise, deer will just stick their heads thru the cattle fence.
