Deere 27c Excavator

This might not be the place to ask about
a mini Excavator but I thought I'd give
it a shot. I put a thumb on it to pick up
things but I can't get the cylinder to
work properly I have heard some that are
already plumbed with quick connect
fittings are for a hammer only and I also
heard there could be a switch to make a
cylinder function anyone have experience
with one of these thanks Rick

Look in your operators manual. Yes there is a switch to make your cylinder work properly.

I recently put a hydraulic thumb on my John Deere 35D which is probably similar to your 27C. My excavator was plumbed with Auxiliary hydraulic couplers but it was set for one way operation like a a jackhammer. To get the thumb to go two ways all I had to do was switch a valve on the left side of cab. You can access it through a hole on the side of the cab. Just turn the valve to two way.

Is yours a ZTS? I don't find a plain 27C. Here are the manuals JD offers for a 27CZTS.

Left side of cab exterior about half way up from the tracks. Look for a hole in the side or there might be a rubber plug in the hole. Easy to find.
