Deere 337 Baler

Bought a decent 337 recently. It had sat for 10+ years in a barn prior to my buying it. Looking for advice on service before I go work it hard. Already replaced the flywheel bushing and checked over the knotters. More specifically how much oil does the gearbox need, and how should I check it. Thanks for reading.

For the questions you are asking, and for those things you will need to know to properly and safely operate your 'new' baler, you really NEED an owners manual.Order one asap and read it.It will have trouble shooting guides, plus much more. If you dont get the book,I'll garrantee you will be asking the same question every new baler owner/operator asks: My baler wont tie properly,WHY?That book will tell how to fix. It is usually an easy 2 minute adjustment. As for oil, there is a check plug 1/4 to 1/2 up on the side of the gearbox. It will take anywhere from a quart or two to a gallon or two. I'm not a JD guy,so I cannot correctly answer that question.Again, the book will tell you.BTW,Those are really good balers.

Link for free operators manual is shown below. Check to be sure plungerhead stop is in operating condition.

Before you mower 10 acres of hay and have a problem.
Bust a dozen bales of hay up and run them through the baler and make sure that it ties and ejects as it should.
You might want to do this a couple times.

I had a 336 for awhile. Two problems that I had were both rust related, even though the PO had never left it out??? The first was thin metal under the knotters, second was a half inch of rust build-up under the plunger-head slides.
