Deere 950/1050 trans clutch disk differences

My deere 950 has 3200 hours and it is time to replace the clutch disks. It has a dual stage clutch. Deere lists one disk for the pto section, but two different disks for the transmission disk. One has friction material all the way around the disk like most clutch disks, and the other has six "ears" with friction material riveted to them. They list the one with ears as the heavy duty disk and the other as the standard disk.

This is counter intuitive to me. Has anyone installed either of these trans disks and is the one with the ears really the heavy duty version? It seems like you would have more contact service with the disk with friction material all the way around.

Late 950/1050 have the same dual clutch. The 6 ear is the heavy duty,and I have only seen pictures,but it is probably ceramic or some better material.I had to replace my regular disc about 20 years ago,because it was coming apart,(dad was trying to pull stumps!)but still have the same PTO disc(5,000 hours) Just had to do a rebuild,but both discs were good as new. I think I would put the heavy duty one in,if I ever have to replace it again.
Look on Ebay under "John Deere" 950 clutch(or 1050) they have them about 1/4th the cost of John Deere unless you just like to pay $422.80 for a disc <E></E>
