Have a 1951 JD B can't get it to run properly unless choke is part way out. Have taken it off and removed all plugs and soaked in carb cleaner. washed it out with paint gun cleaner' ran a wire through all the ports, still no luck. What am I missing. Some say there is a secret idle passage, where is this . I thought I had cleaned everything. Any ideas?

Could it possibly be a cracked manifold? Or a bad seal between carb n manifold? Kind of sounds to me like you're getting some air in from somewhere

No - this is a case, pure as can be, of a stopped pathway in the IDLE circuit. Ensuring a carb's IDLE pathway is clear take a litle more than a soak and poking some wires here and there. He has missed one! (PatB)

This issue is covered OVER & OVER in thread after thread on this forum. Try a visit to the Robert's Carb page, "technical information" section for a diagram that shows the "secret passage". FYI, it is at the bottom of the stem - very close to the IDLE needle valve area. (PatB)
Robts Carb Repair

I had the same problem with the carb on my '49 B. Take a real close look at all the plugs on the outside of the carb. If you can't see why the hole was drilled, there is probably a plugged hole somewhere. The ports on my carb were so glazed over they were invisible until I cleaned them out.

An air leak is also possible, as others have suggested.

This may be covered over and over on Roberts site but it never mentions anything about the very small ports in the throat of the carburetor that are probably corroded over and you can"t see. Like was stated if there is a drill plug that you can see from the outside there is most likely a port under it that you are missing. I finally got another used carburetor before i saw these ports on the carb that i couldn"t get to run. I would suggest though to go ahead and order the drill bit set from roberts. You will be amazed how much more rust will come out.

THANKS FOR ALL THE HELP. The little port in the stem was blocked. Would never have seen if didn't know were to look. FWB
