True. I worked in the engine group at Deere. Several of our people transferred to the to be new DEDEC company. Of course that merger fell apart just before it happened. Deere engineers had a lot to do with the Detroit 60 Series engines

u sure are right about deere having alot to do with the 60 series. if you look close at the engine there is the famous JD emblems casted into the front waterpump and front cast housings. i have a couple parts engines i will see if i can get a picture of it.

I?m glad someone on the inside could shed a little light on the subject . That would be a fun time be around the Deere engine program. The Facebook board of engineers always that Deere stole that engine design when in fact they helped design it

There's a somewhat similar story about what was or maybe still is the Onan "L" series engines - which I guess is now part of Cummins. Deere was playing footsie with Onan, looking to maybe procure that company. Didn't happed. Still Deere had quite a bit to do with the "L" Series engine's design. Some of the same thing with Zetor too. Industry has a lot of false starts. A former Deere boss whom I respect a great deal once explained that it's a lot like ice fishing, "you just gotta drill a lot of holes."
Another one that I remember is that Deere designed their engines into New Holland machines, just before the sudden move of Ford acquiring New Holland happened. Needless to say, the NH machines got Ford industrial engines instead of JD engines. Some of the installation parts designed by JD went into production at NH to support the Ford engines.

Toured the Deere Foundry many years ago and recall being told we were looking at Detroit Diesel engine blocks.

The choked down Cummins in my 8960 and Penske in my 9400 could have been good tractors. I haven't seen an engine from red or green hold a candle to a yellow one. I tried to get Kenzie to put a Cummins in my 9400. Said he could not do it, to many computers. If I had won the lottery, I would have parked the 9400 along I74 with a big lemon on top of the cab. A 4 wheel drive 6030, too much weight and too little hp.

And yt keyboard farmers association finally made it didn?t they 😅. I?ve spent a lot of time a Steiger with a 425 horsepower cat and it was no better than the 9400 is of course you got the comfortable cab of the Steiger with a gear shift between your legs and 2 more on the dash ant then hydraulic capacity and flow of a Ford 8n that was wore out . Definitely better than a 16 speed powershift and big decent quite cab I agree .
