Delco Distributor Maintenance

Pulled this distributor and drive off of an Allis Chalmers C that has been sitting for decades. Do these use oil or grease in the plug holes? mine appears to have oil in it. Also, what type of lube where the drive gears run? Wasn't much left inside when I opened it up.

grease. you were to remove the plug , put in a zerk, give it 1/2 shot of grease the remove zerk and put plug back in. i would say a light grease like steering box grease in the gears.

Any type of grease is better than no grease !! Pack it full of regular gun grease and never worry about it again.

I put oil in the actual distributor. The screw in the side. And grease in the gear box. I think the bushings in the distributor are porous bronze and the oil will leach through to the shaft/bearing with time.

Thats what I have been told is that the distributors have Oilite bushings. I would think grease would be too thick to flow thru the bushing. I was thinking a flowable 00 grease in the drive part.
