Delco REMY starter ID

how can I identify the starter i have, i see an Delco Remy tag on it with a model number that's obliterated
the numbers i can read are 1107017 9E 3
cant make out all what it says on the bottom of tag but it ends in electrical equipment
Im pretty sure this is a 6 volt starter, but would like to be sure
thanks!

GOOGLE "Delco 1107017" (the other numbers are a date code) and you'll find it's a 6 Volt starter, and what Allis Chalmers tractors it fits.

Also, since it has the original Delco "tag", it will be "black", indicating 6 Volt, 12 Volt units had red tags.

wow thanks!
I had thought about googling that starter number but i did not.
and I didn't know the color code.
Ive read that i can use this starter on a 12 volt system as long as it is not "cranked over" for a extended time, what are your thoughts on that?
thanks again ...bushnellman

There's MANY 6 Volt starters used with 12 Volt conversions that have functioned just fine for many years.

With sensible use, starter heating won't be an issue.

Some 6 Volt starters really "kick in" HARD on 12 Volts, can be a bit tough on certain starter drives.
