Dell, found the problem....finally.

The motor couldn't turn over cause the gear on the starter was broke and cockeyed. Still have to split tractor slightly to retrieve broken splines.

Oh well, live and learn.

use a magnet on a stick or coathanger to dig the stuff out. I've found starter parts when splitting a tractor before.. there is a bit of room in there..

You don't have to retrieve the broken pieces.

I've opened up lots of Ford tractors and found starter drive parts happily lying in the bottom of the clutch housing so long they were stuck there in crud after years of riding arount in there.

Butch........good fer yew. You do know Ford designed "starter parts storage space" in the tranny housing, don't you??? Me? I'd leaver bee. You can NOT retrieve parts with magnet. Wanna guess why???

Recommend the NEW clutchless starter drive gear. It does NOT dis-engage from flywheel as readily as the OEM starter drive. Where 1-kauph will send the starter home without starting the engine. ........Dell

I had the link tucked away in a file on my computer..Lots of the time I will know I have something filed away but can"t find it. Luckily this time I went right to it--thank goes to whoever originally posted it.....To each his own, but if I lost parts inside, I"d do my best to fish em out..
