Delta drill press ??

HELP... I have an older 12 inch Delta brand drill
press that the chuck fell off of today..Have been using a few times a month & can not see what holds it on.There is no threaded hole in the shaft for a screw or?? Could it be a press on fit or ?? Thanks for any answers.. Wayne

Most drill chucks fit on with either a morse (the chuck has a shaft) or jacobs (chuck has a hole) taper. All you need to do to reinstall it is to make sure the two machined pieces are clean of rust, dirt etc and shove them together. A sharp rap on the chuck (have it open to wide so the jaws are recessed) should seat it back in position well.

Its a press fit.Just put it back on and crank it down hard on a 4x4 or something.Has to be clean.You want to take any rust off with a wire wheel first.

I had a Delta drill press that the chuck kept falling out.

I finally put it back together with a couple drops of locktite. Stayed together until I sold it a couple years later.

Fixed mine years ago,
Go get a chuck that comes with a set screw.
The one I got came with a 1/4" allen head set screw. Then take a 3/16" drill bit, clamp it into a vise grip and stand it up under the spindle.
with the spindle turning bore out the center of the shaft. Tap out the bore to 1/4" and mount the chuck.
I fixed my Delta years ago and used it pretty heavily. Some punk stole it. Went and bought a Craftsman and fixed it the same way.

Thanks for the answers. I wiped it down good this A.M.& cleaned with Brakeclean.Put it on with few drops of Loctite.Will let it sit til morning & try it..Also squigged it down on a 4x4 block.. Thanks again.. Wayne
