They look similar to this one (if this works).

Thanks A.P.,
Does the drawbar still attach in the factory location? Have you seen anyone build this setup and still retained the PTO?
Thanks,
Charles

Hey AP,

Just wondering how heavy you pull with that set-up? I've always liked the idea of a set-up like that or similar, but we pull pretty heavy with our H & M a couple times a year (up to 12,000 with the M, up to 9,000 with the H) and I've always felt that by pulling off of the original position of of the axel housing that we were at least putitng the weight and stress out towards the axles a little more. I'm afraid that if we pulled our M or H heavy with a set-up like that it would put a tremendous amount of strain on the axle housing bolts and main housing itself. I've seen them similar to yours but tied into the axle housing bolts too.

Anyone have an opinion on this? I've seen them like this on modifieds with car engines in them with M rears so I think I may be worried about nothing.....

First off it's not my tractor (I pull an Oliver). It i on one of the Michigan M's, but I do not know which one. It's pulled regularily at 6,000 but I am not sure about heavier classes. The draw bar is attached by a pin that goes between the two uprights and the two uprights have bars that tie further forward for additional reinforcement.

If the two uprights were a bit heavier and it was tied into the chassis/rear end/transmission, I have no doubt it would work up to 12,000# and beyond. The basic style of hitch shown is some times referred to as an "Engler" hitch and is widely used and copied by super stock and unlimited modified pullers on down with great success around the country. I will see if I can locate a more pictures of similar hitches. I just happened to remember I had that one and knew where to find it.

The hitch in the picture is mine. The heaviest I have ever pulled it was 8500# but I wouldn't hesitate to put it on a 1066 and pull 15,000#. I got the idea from Gary Baker. He sells pieces to make a similar hitch. He tells me that he got the idea from Scott Boeller. It is very adjustable and very rigid. You can run any size tire you want and still put your hitch where you want it.

The hitch is tied forward to the bottom of the differetial housing where the straight drawbar formerly pulled from which makes the uprights more than heavy enough.

Mike when you pull 12000 with the M I would Bet Jim Put almost the same Stress on his M at 8500,

Some of tht tracks that Jim Pulls with his M pull much harder than here!

Sorry I couldn't remember whose tractor the hitch was on Jim. The photo was taken at Port Hope (MI) in 2009. At some point I hope to build a similar hitch.

Look up haslag steel in missouri ( i believe). They have some great looking hitches for a reasonable price. Very professional looking products. What tractor do you pull?

I pull a W6 and have a W9 in the works. Designing a hitch that is within the rules, add wheelie bars while retaining as much sheetmetal as possable and making it look good requires alot of thought since I want to keep the PTO. I have recieved pics from a few guys and have a pretty good idea what direction I"ll go. But.... it never fails when your done and you look back and say, why didn"t I think of that. :)

do you have all the dimensions to those hitches or is there anywhere i could find them that is what i was hoping to build

I recognized that hitch immediately....

Yeah, but who said Jim knew what he was doing when pulling that M...

Here is what those style hitches look like from underneath. The straps connect to the original swinging drawbar location.
