Dewalt spade bit

Bought two of these 3/4 inch x 16 long spade bits to drill holes through ties to hang gates also brought a 7/8 auger bit I think Ill return it drilled 4 holes with one spade bit. Used my dewalt 20v drill to bore the holes

Don't return it, if you do you will need a 7/8 inch auger bit soon after. I think I'm saving a dime by returning something, only to have a need for that something in the near future. Do as you wish, tools are expensive but having it will save you eventually. btdt gobble

That's true, ship auger would be better for the job. But, if you only have a few holes to drill and no further use the spade bits are a LOT cheaper!.

Also, a ship auger takes a lot more power and lower RPM. Not all drills can use them, safely.

I agree, should have said Ive had better luck with an auger over a spade bit when drilling ties and power poles that are treated. I also use a rag and acetone to clean off creosote build up. I have way more auger bits than spade.

Them 20V Dewalt drills are the whip, my neighbor has one and it has 1/2" chuck. My Bosch is only 3/8", I plan on getting one myself. Only downside I can think is his came with 2Ah batteries. But it still gets the job done.

Ok I know my dad has some that the flutes are more
like the auger in a combine and then some like the one i
have the flutes are more flat faced .

Every time I use that drill I just smile holy cow is it nice!
I normally have the small batteries in it but sometimes
like today Ill swap the big one between it and the skill
