Dexta lift height adjustment

I have a 62' Dexta that will no longer raise the the life arms high enough to get my brush mower's rear wheel off the ground when I'm done mowing. I removed the whole lift assembly last winter and replaced the all the seals including the piston seal. The arms will stay up for weeks now with little settling but they don't raise up as high as they did before. Is there some type of adjustment I can make without removing the whole asemmbly again? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

When you have your bush hog off the tractor, does the hydraulic arm go all the way up. If so, it is not your hydraulics that are the problem, but your top link is way out to long. Remove the Top link, on a level surface, and lift the front of the bush hog up. Using a tape measure, measure from the ground to the bottom edge of the bush hog, at the rear, and have the front the same height, as the back of the bush hog. reinstall the top link, and make adjustments to the top link to fit. You must have these machines level to do a good job. If this is not the case, and then I will check with my shop manual, to see what your trouble is.

Hi Bruce, thank-you for your response. My top link is turned all the way in and I can still barely get the wheel on the back of the mower to lift off the ground. It used to lift higher than it does now, apparently I somehow changed one of the adjustments when I had the lift assembly off this past winter. I thought I put everything back together correctly, but obviously something has changed. The manual shows how to make adjustments with the whole lift assembly placed in a vice. I briefly read through the procedure and stopped when they referred to special tools that would have to be modified( I believe tha manual said they were for a Ford 8N or 9N? ). I took it apart because the lift height control had started to sieze-up due to lack of lubrication in the upper moving parts and deteriorated seals allowing moisture to seep in and cause them to start rusting. If you or anyone else knows how to make this adjustment without the special tools which I'm fairly sure can no longer aquired, that information would be greatly appreciated. PS: The lift lever works like new now( no resistance ). Thanks again

Hi,

First three easy checks:

Is there enough hydraulic oil?

Are the hydraulics set for position control rather than draft control? (~4" long cast lever on the right side near the top of the housing should be set in the horizontal position)?

Is the external hydraulics knob pushed all the way in?

If these are not the problem, then there is a small pin that wears and might need replaced under the top of the housing.
