Dexta Parts Availability

I have the opportunity of buying a "59 Fordson Dexta for $850. It has sat for awhile and will not start. It may as simple as a fuel filter related problem or something more serious. How available are parts for these British Ford tractors? The sheet metal around the radiator has some dents, is there a source for replacement sheet metal other than the fenders, which seem readily available? Is this a good deal at the price or not? I need a project that my sons and myself can do together plus our Simplicity lawn tractor is being beaten to death on our 5 acres.

About price--Cant help you. Spares Try www.agrilineproducts.com or www.southerntractorspares.co.uk. I have dealt with them and the feed back is good. They both do export. Tin is available here in UK BUT lotsa dollars. MTF

Sounds like a good price.
Gas or diesel? You will need a [u:626751cff5]good[/u:626751cff5] fully charged battery for the test.
If it is gas, it is easy to do a compression test, this will tell you lots about the engine.
Diesel, the injectors will need to be pulled for the test.
First dry test, then add a half cup of oil to each cylinder, and test again.
(Watch for oil spray when you turn the motor over)
PS remove the air filter for the test and keep throttle wide open.
Clean and re-fill filter unit, before re-installing the air filter.

Parts availability for these old Tractors are not that big of a Problem, and if you find the right supplier, you will be able to get them.
Dennis Polk out of New Paris Indiana might also be able to help. his eMail Address is [email protected] . Also if it has a Perkins 144 Cubic Inch, you can have the Block Bored out by a Machine Shop to receive a Sleeve for a 152 Cubic Inch. Hops this helps. Bruce.
