dextra starting problems

I just purchased a dextra with a perkins 3 cylinder diesel, It will not start with out a wiff of either, is this normal or should I look for a problem, the electrical seems fine new batteries ect, and the IP was recently rebuilt help

This is a problem a lot of the old Dexta's i have seen.your looking at a worn out engine or injector pump or both.

I find mine is very reluctant to start in the winter. This time of year 30 seconds on the heater plug and it starts fine second or third attempt. I'm pretty sure my problem is lack of compression due to worn piston rings (7000+ hours on the tachometer). One day we'll get around to it but in the meantime it works so leave well alone.Apart from starting problems it really is a very handy little tractor to have.
