Diesel fuel additives.

Having run a fuels and lubes testing lab for a number of years now, I thought I had seen every additive that man could invent. About a month ago though a guy came in with another one, claiming that it would do this and that and everything you can imagine. Well me being from MO, whoops I am really from Pa, I agreed to schedule some lab testing, after all, I make money whether it works or not. This stuff does exactly what the guy said it would. We are seeing emmissions cleanup, much better fuel economy and a lot more power. Our next step is to put it through a Cummings 410 engine to see how it will do there. This additive will be worth the money. As this evolves I will gladly share this info with you guys, because as my most favorite TV guy, RED GREEN, says, "We are all in this together".

Jed do you what the chemical make up of the additive is when you test it?

Or do you just test the preformance and not worry about whats in it?

Sounds like an interesting job.

Gary------Actually we do both chemical testing and the physical testing. It is one stop shopping. We specialise in R&D work, but we also do a lot of QA/QC work for customers. I have done field studies for customers, in which we bought a wide range of additives from all over and tested them. Only about 10% of what we have tested actually do what they say. The gain they claim versus any performance increase that you do get , is so slight it isn't worth the money.

Yep Jed, your credentials are good with me.

I'm curious, are you also doing pump wear tests, cold flow, etc.?

I'm also curious, does this additive come from up in my neck of the woods or the next state over?

It is marketed as Acees Diesel additive. They tell you to use 1 gal per every 1000 gal, but just cut back to the volume want to treat. We look at Cetane, Cold Flow, Shear Stability, Lubricity, etc. all by ASTM guidelines. When you use the additive it initially does a cleanup, which is just ash and the likes being combusted.

Acees does not come up on Google search but Aces does. Did you just misspell the name or is that a different product than Aces?

If you really want to find a good additive find something to add to biodiesel so it won"t gel up in cold climates and then we can be petro free and run b100 year round. please let me know if you can find or make such a thing.
