Dieseltech question Case 2470

Dieseltech, I need advice on torque specification and torque method for a delivery valve holder on PES6A Bosch inline pump, Case 2470. On an earlier forum you stated: "Holder torque is 30-32 ft/lb, done 3 times, then check for smooth rack travel". What do you mean by "done 3 times"? Could you please clarify? Thank you for your reply!

Sure, Bosch torque chart for the A size pump delivery valve holders shows 30-32 FT-LBS, done three times. Simply means tighten, take loose, tighten, take loose, tighten.. This helps make sure the 1 410 105 001 bronze gasket is seated correctly. For rack freedom of movement that can be checked on most engines after removing the cap at the pump front. It MUST NOT move hard, and depending on which starting spring is used in the governor most will move back out when released after being pushed in. On A pumps with 10 MM plungers the 30 FT-LB setting works better, the thinner barrels cause rack sticking to be a problem more at 32 FT-LB. This info applies to the D series pumps like most Case, JD, Cummins, Valmet, etc..
