Difference between 5610's

I have a '88 5610II with cab and air, nice tractor with 3500 hours, good condition. I also have chicken houses and need a tractor that will fit in them, i.e. no cab. I've found a New Holland 5610S with 1158 hours, '95 model, new back tires, good condition. Are the later New Holland models as reliable as the old Fords? I know I'll miss the cab rolling hay, but I don't need any more payments. Thanks

I can't answer your question directly on the 5610 since I don't have one, but Ford and New Holland sold quite a few of those tractors and overall, New Holland tractors are pretty reliable as far as I know. From your description of that particular machine it sounds good, low hours and good rear tires so assuming reasonable care and no bad noises while running and driving, it would seem like a good fit for you as you already have experience with the earlier model. Hope it works out! -Will

Does that mean you would sell the 5610 II to get another tractor? The 5610S was a good tractor. My dad sold quite a few of them. We put one on the dyno and I think it almost hit 70 hp on the pto. Very strong!

If you sell the 5610 II with cab, will you trade it in, or sell it private party?

Even trade, which really ain't no great deal on my end, but I need an open tractor for the chicken houses. Will be moving up several years and 1/3 the hours. I really like my 5610, but can't justify buying another tractor when I can swap.

The 'S' is basically the same tractor with final assembly done in Mexico or Brazil (can't remember which one) and it used a Genesis engine instead of the original 10 series engine. They also only had the basic 8x2 or 16x4 transmission... so no shuttle or syncro shift...
The tractor itself could be quite a step backwards in terms of features depending on what you have now... and not really worth a direct swap in my opinion..
Have you considered getting something smaller and more suited to the barn work and just keeping what you have? I'm not saying there's anything wrong with the 10 S tractor... it's most likely going to be as reliable as what you have. It's just the drop in features is not something I'd look forward to.
