Difference between an 860 and 861?

Other than tin and foot boards and intake manifold/carb options that increased horsepower, what are the differences in an 860 and 861? Both have 172 CI engine, five speed tranny and live PTO.

Stripped down to "running gear", are there significant differences?

Are there significant improvements that took place with the 01 series?

depending on the age.. you will find pedal route differences and spline changes in a couple areas.. but no real 'meat and potato' design changes.

Hmmm. My 860 may turn out to have a healthier engine and has better feeling clutch. It's a little of a frankentractor anyway...mostly with tin, fenders and footboards that are a mix of years.

Kind of silly, but like the looks of the 861 better and thought about swapping the tin. I also like the TSX 736 fuel economy better on the 860. The 861 has a TSX 769 or 813 (missing tag), and that's consistent with what I read about the 01 series having a little more horsepower. Not interested in the increased HP given the fuel consumption, though. Guess I could swap the manifolds.

i have a 950 franken tractor i use for light horse pasture clipping.. I took an old naa carb i had and modified it.. I miss a few ponies.. but it sips fuel...

Cylinder heads and head bolts are different.

About .75:1 increase in CR, which accounts for just about all fo the HP increase.

Hello Beanmedic , Plus stuff these other guys do not know about like stronger castings in 1959, stronger gears and axles in 1958, 1959 and 1961, stronger pto shafts in 1957 and 1961 plus a lot of minor things on the 01 series of tractors over the 100 series make then much better . Personally mid 1961 01 series up to the end of Dec. 1965 1000 series four cylinder tractors are the best . All improvements were done by then and the only change was the color and the sheet metal .
