Differences on a 741 and a 941

I have a 941 with the 172 diesel engine. I have found a tractor that is supposed to be a 741 with a 144 diesel. If the serial number is not legible, is there a way to tell the difference between the 172 diesel and the 144 diesel? I am going to look at this tractor in the morning. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The casting number on the right side of the engine block is different between a 172 and a 144. Scroll way down on John Smith's ID website for a list of the different casting numbers.
