Different 2N

Got a 2N at an auction. This one is somewhat different from my other 2N. Ground speeds are definetly faster even with over/under in low range.

Has two dipsticks for hydraulic and rear end. Has starter button on dash with proper mounting spots on the back side of dash. No safety switch. No place on transmission cover that could have ever had a starter button.

Any explaination?

John.......as always, posting the engine serial number is a "help" and you know where to find it don't you???

Could it be a "re-bodied" BN-20 navy aircraft tug??? They had a dash mounted starter switch and HYDRAULIC BRAKES. .......justta WAG, Dell

Dunno about the tranny speeds.
As for the starter switch I think they went from a dash mounted switch to the safety interlock style on the top of the tranny in 1940 or 41.
Check the dash with a magnet. It's probably aluminum.

Will ask grandkids about posting pictures. I don't even want to attempt-did once and was afraid I was going to end up on some terrorist list. Really messed it up.

Will check the serial number. Haven't gotten that far yet. But my 9N has the safety lockout starter button??

Dash also has a hole where the proofmeter would have gone on newest 8N's.

Another strange thing-the three point move instantly and holds up for a LONG time. Someone must have redone the pump.

Loader came with it. Superior Loader, not Ford. And has hydraulic bucket added on as well as quick tach for changing buckets. That is obviously a modification but will be very handy as my Bobcat buckets fit on it.

With a loader,You should check the axle king pin and it's bushing.These are sturdy machines,but were not made for that much weight.They will hold up ,but you should inspect the king pins,front support,etc for cracks.If they are caught early it's easier to fix.good luck,sounds like a great find.---lha

the 9n/2n dash and the 8n dash are not interchangeable.

any chance you simply have a 8n with a 2n engine?.. or some kind of mutt.

Will get pics. Rear hubs, front wheels, etc are for sure 2N. Also has draft control that works without draft control shut off lever on right side.

Am sort of laid up for the past month. Got tangled up in my skidloader (really dumb thing, but that's why they call them accidents) and am pretty much limited to wheelchair and walker most of the time. Get down to the shop riding sidesaddle on 4 wheeler off ramp kids put on my deck.

Maybe that's why I got a 'find' at the auction?? Sympathy for old guy with walker/wheelchair??

I have a loader on my 9N but this one is in better shape and can still front mount-have to climb on the back of 9N.

if it has draft control, for sure the rear hyd cover and pump have been swapped... can't wait to see the pics. considering how much can swap.. you might have pieces all strewn around from different N's.

Had the cultivator mounted on it and worked up the last sweet corn patch and food plot for deer. Definitely had draft control working as digger would come up with hard going.

Actually all Ford tractors have Draft Control as that was the whole idea behind the Ferguson System. Only the 8N and newer had the Position Control which bypassed the draft, and is the little lever under the seat in the top cover.

Can have granddaughters help me. Have gotten used to "the look" they give me when they help me with computer questions.

I know they're thinking grandpa used to ride the little, short bus to school.

Finally got around to checking numbers. Went to Serial Number list on TractorData but still unsure.

Engine # is 9N2I86. Easy to read but didn't find anything like this on TractorData information for 9N or 2N. All 2N serial numbers appear to start with '9N'.

Axle # is 2N4015A2 and has 2-5-45 stamped upside down just above the 2N number.

Dash is aluminum. Starter button obviously belongs on the dash. Not sure of hole in dash. Looks like close to the spot for Proofmeter but not as large a hole. Ignition key is on upper right of dash.

Still haven't figured out how to post pics.
