Differential

Need help please. This is a great site. Maybe some of you tractor guys can help out. I bought
a ford back in summer. Year 1958, modal # 641. My problem is in the differential. The ring
gear carrier came a part. The 8 bolts sheared off and damage the carrier. All the spider/axle gears and ring and pinion gears are ok. My question is “ what year , modal of ford would fit if I could find a used one?
Thanks

Hello Stanley;

In checking the CNH parts web site the 600 and 601 use the same differential gear case assembly, Part # NCA4204B. In fact based on the CNH info the date this part was first used was Jan of 1953 which would put it being used in the Jubilee, NAA, 600 and 601. Based on CNH parts information you would be safe using one from one of the above tractors from 1953 to 1961.

I would confirm this with your CNH dealer or perhaps someone on this site has first hand experince...

As a word of CAUTION I did not compare other parts as you said yours were okay.

Am I missing something here? You say it sheared the rivets off that hold the crown wheel to the carrier, and it didn't damage anything else? I would feel compelled to install some new bolts into it and reinstall it if I felt that nothing else was bad...
There's no guarantee that anything you buy will be any better.

John, He basically has a 601 with the 40 describing the "package"
which is a 4 speed with PTO and 3 point hitch. So any 4 speed
parts for a 601 series will work. HTH

Thank you all for your input. Sorry john Bud I should have worded my question different.
Just old retired mechanic, didn’t get a lot of education.
Glen gave me what I needed. The main problem and the reason I can’t just get new bolts
and bolt it back together is that at some earlier time in the tractor’s life these same bolts broke
and ground down the matting surface about 1/4". Who ever repaired at that time just put in
new bolts. Need to figure out a plan of action. Either a replacement or re-bolt it together
and this time fill the space up and just weld it up.
