Sheldon, The wood shavings may bring up the acid in the soil, but they dont seem to hurt anything around here. I spread horse manure with shavings on hay fields, and have had no problems. Im talking fresh manure all winter long. I also cant see how the organic matter from horse manure would affect being spread on crop fields. Like corn, wheat were ever plants need to grow. I know horse manure isnt as good as cow manure, but it adds matter to the soil. Towns who collect yard waste grass clippings, form sububan areas could compost it and then give it to nearby farms, rather than just dumping it into a landfill.
