Disc mower blades

How many here sharpen them? Or do you flip them once then replace. I will sharpen maybe 5 times then flip and sharpen another 5 times. I might be taking mine to far because I can tell it cuts better when I have a brand new set on.

I let them go too long, flip them, let them go too long, then replace. Not much left to sharpen….

Most of what I cut is courser grass on ground too wet to mow on time, so sharpness isn’t all that important to cut the tall mature stems.

I'll clamp a pair of vise grips on the blade while still on the mower to hold them still, and touch them up with the angle grinder.
Usually do that once, flip them, sharpen that side once, then replace.

I was wondering how one sharpens them as they don’t hold still like a sickle section. I’ll touch up a sickle on the combine or few times I use a mower now, if I need to finish up cutting and don’t want to shut down for a whole blade change over. Sometimes can brush the vertical of the guards to give thrm a crisper face too.

Vice grips of course for the disc blades.

When I bought mine the guy gave me a 5 gallon bucket full of brand new blades I probably won’t have to buy any for eternity so I’ll flip and replace

I stick a screwdriver handle through the bolt mount hole and let the blade push against it.
