What would be a good size disc to pull behind an 860? Assuming a good running engine and proper tires. Currently using an old Ford 6 1/2 foot 3 point. Would like a wider, heavier pull type.

Back when dad's 860 was the big tractor on the farm, we had an 8' 3 pt mounted disc. Pretty light on the front end so had loaded front tires. Was plenty of disc for most conditions. You could work a 9' pull type MAX depending on weights/soil conditions.

When my dad bought his 63 4000 new he also bought a 12 1/2 foot Krause disk. Pulled it for years in heavy clay and some pretty good hills. He did have fluid in the tires and a full set of 30lb pie weights on it. Pretty much the same tractor as yours, just a little newer and different transmission as it has the SOS in it

I pull an 8' behind my 3000.
Lifting it isn't a problem. Traction is.
I have rear weights.

Thanks for the input. Taking into consideration the traction concerns I think I'll try adding weight to my Ford disc. Tried a couple of cement blocks on it with my 8N years ago. No problem with traction but it couldn't lift the disc high enough out of the dirt to turn around. Shouldn't be a problem with the 860. See how that works before going to a wider disc. Don't have wheel weights but the tires are loaded to the max.
Should have mentioned that I'm working up several acres for food plots and native grass / flower planting. Land has been in CRP for 35 years so has some pretty dense sod.

Amazing.........I bought the same brand, similar disc and my JD 4020 (96 HP) told me it didn't want to try to pull that thing through the same type of neglected sod, heavy clay soil.
