Distillate manifold question.

You can see my manifold below. I wanted to have it like orginal, but upon further inspection, I found several things broken. On the top you can see one of the bolts that holds the shield in place is broken off at the base. Also, on the close up pic you can see the setting lever for HOT, MEDIUM, COLD is broken off. It's cirlced in green, and the indents for the switch are underlined.

The question: Am I screwed, or can these things be fixed/replaced?

I totally agree. I'm just asking the question because I noticed this as I was doing other work on the H.

Though dissapointin, the fact is that removing brken off bolts (some that you twisted off) is reality. The shield "stud" (what it is called) will need to be cleaned with a wire brush till sparkling then looked at to find its center, then senter punched in the very center and drilled out and tapped (get some help on the first few so your experience is positive. The heat control damper shaft and lever will come loose, and will need to be reproduced to repair it. it is often in the state you have. It will not affect the way it runs (unless the damper is rusted completely away) There will be other priorities first. The tube is connected to the back of the head (shown in the other post. it is crankcase ventillation. JimN

I have a '36 Mc Cormich Deering crawler with the same problems and had new parts made at Monarch Machine shop. At least we have real iron to work with instead of rice paper.

Go ahead and get the pieces loose . If you

break it the odds are really good that I can

fix it .
