Distillate Valve Guides

Are distillate valve guides different than the gas guides? Where can I source new ones? I only what looks to be gas head guides on-line.

Is this on your Farmall H? Do you have the head off? If so what do the pistons look like on top. Are they all washed clean around the outer edge? If so that is oil coming up the pistons washing off the carbon. I believe the distillate valve guides may be shorter, they have different part numbers. Distillate PN 6269DR, gas PN 8949DR. Number 38 in the link. Looks like you will have to select Engine for Category and in diagram 008 Cylinder Head. Web search the part numbers for more cost effective options. Second link is a previous post I am guessing is the machine in question.

guess i should have said the distillate is a different head. dont know what engine or tractor u are referring to. even the john deere D burned distillate.

There has to be some difference in the guides, at least in the case of the H. IH lists a 6169DR for NOT HIGH COMPRESSION GASOLINE & the 8049DR HIGH COMPRESSION GASOLINE. Wouldn't the former be a little taller to compensate for a longer stem on the valve?

Distillate valves are shorter, taller chamber in head for less compression. I didnt think the guide was different but never rebuilt a low compression head, nobody wants that

Deeper the combustion chamber like a distillate or kerosene the shorter valve and guide length is. Think gas ones can be used made shorter if others can't be found. Need to check if the other fuel ones were made with a bigger ID. Doubt it because most need sized after installing anyway.

Id have to look head numbers up, been awhile since Ive done an H or an M. Id say yes since running kerosene or distillate was with the low compression head, probably same head and valves.

According to IH specs around the ending time of H production with standard pistons the compression of gas engine was 5.90 to one. Distillate 4.75, Kerosene 4.50. Length of gas valves, intake 5-13/64 exhaust 5-25/64. Distillate I- 5-3/64, E- 5-5/64. Kerosene I- 4-15/16, E- 4-31/32. Guides ends locate 31/32 above top surface at head. Have pressed in aftermarket ones using a sized shaft in ID and some have ended up needing reamed when valves are installed even measuring valve stems and switching around. Press from inside chamber up. If comparing length of old guides to gas and they need to be shorter do it on lower end. Would check internet for part number posted to see if they show up before going gas guide route.
