Distributor cam bushing

I had to replace the centrifugal advance on my 52 8N (side
distributor). The old one was falling apart. I bought the new
one from this site. There is no brass bushing in my new
advance and there is slop and the cam will move about 1/8 of
an inch. I can set the points and it runs well but it keeps
wearing out the follower that rides on the cam. Am I missing
something here? I don't see anywhere a bushing is called out.

f the advance/cam wobbles on the shaft, then the shaft must be worn below correct size. If shaft wobbles & adv/cam fits shaft well, then look for worn distributor to shaft bushing.

I suspect the old worn out advance wore the shaft. I could mic
it and suspect it should be the same diameter as the top?

By follower, do you mean the rubbing block on the points? If so, point grease or other stiff grease will almost stop the wear.

I had the same thought and put a small amount of dielectric grease on the cam frequently. No movement in the shaft either. Might pull the shaft out and build up the worn area or just buy a new shaft. I wonder how much clearance there should be between the shaft and cam hole? .010?

ounds like far too much to me. Think of it this way: if cam has 0.010 side to side slop, that could be thought of as adding or subtracting 0.010 to or from the 0.025 point gap. 0.015 or 0.035 ???
