distributor question

i bought a distributor hoping to put it on a super wd9. the guy i got it from was not sure what it came off of but for the price it didnt matter. the number on the mounting flange is
of5801119, on the housing it looks like 53 or s3
part number on the body is 353898R1. none of these numbers match my books but could be from a newer model like 600 or 650. my question is, is it a clockwise or counter clockwise distributor?

The distributor you need should have an H symbol on it. It is a counter clockwise advance, 8°. It was used on all four cylinder gas start diesels until the later 600/650 tractors when they changed to a C symbol with no advance.

off the flange a S being the only letter should be the model of the distributor or symbol letter. Looking from the drive end that distributor turns clockwise. W-9 turns the other direction.
If you find a B or W symbol distributor they turn the correct direction but are for gasoline 9 series type engines.

The distributors for the W9 and WD9 both turn the same direction. The W9 gasoline engine has a distributor that turns opposite from from the A, B, C, H, or M.

Yes, I was trying to say a S symbol distributor turns the wrong direction for a 9 series engine and has the wrong advance also.
Didn't see your post until I had posted. Then later since you already mentioned the letters for a diesel distributor. I posted a couple of 9 series gas engine distributors that turn the right way but have the wrong advance for a diesel in case the poster saw one advertised for a 9 so he could know.
When I say 9 series engine I refer to 9 to 650.

B, C, H and W are clockwise distributors and the others are counterclockwise.

I published a chart along with my Battery Ignition article in the July-August 2007 Red Power Magazine. The chart has advance@speed for about 20 different 4-cylinder distributors and nearly as many more for 6-cylinder engines. The parts catalog for each model tractor says what was originally on it. If you don't have that issue of RPM, it is still available as a back issue for $5.
