I’ve had this 640 for almost 10 years, and I pull a
60” woods mower with it. This has worked fine for me on my 3 acres. A couple of days ago it would not run above an idle, up hill or down hill. So I see the return spring under the battery is broken off at the tip. I bent a new hook in it and now the throttle lever moves to WOT when I shut the key off. When you first start it the throttle goes to WOT, then settles in at about 1000 rpm. So I get a replacement spring. It is identical. Same ends same length and same diameter in both the windings and the wire size. But now, the new spring pulls the throttle wide open. Even if you move it to slow idle the spring pulls it to WOT no matter what. Warm or cold.
I am at a Loss on what to do. Are there any other factors that could cause this imbalance? Nothing else appears to have changed other than replacement of the Belcrank spring.
Any ideas??
