Down to the ' wire ' .

I found this on the flat part of our roof the other day .
The maddening thing about it is that I'm sure I have seen the like of it before but just can't remember what it's from .
Most likely it has been dropped there by a Magpie , they are curious creatures , I feed them daily and they do sometimes bring ' offerings ' in return .

Thats a hold down bar from an old school mouse trap

Yes a mouse trap trigger bar !
Thank you ! I was thinking it may be a governor linkage from an older Briggs engine .
Mouse trap makes perfect sense , not Magpies after all but more likely one of the Tawny Frogmouth Owls that also live on and near our home . They are strong birds and could easily lift a mouse and trap together . The flat roofed area is a perfect picnic table for them .
Well done ! Thanks for solving this puzzle.

That's a big trap, it looks to be about 4 1/4 inches long!
It's a rat trap. I just measured one of my Victor rat traps, the length is a match. Haven't used one since I moved out of the mobile home, but I always used rat traps after seeing mice strolling around with a mouse trap attached to them. No strolling with those big boys, they cut them in half - only the skin holds the two pieces together.

I work in a refinery, there is a lot of .050” stainless wire used there the majority is used by insulators to tie the formed pieces of insulation to a pipe before the jacketing is put on. We have some pigeons around even though they attempt to control them. If you find a nest the majority of it will be short chunks of that wire and occasionally a piece of 9 wire the scaffold builders use to tie down planking etc.
